National Convention wrapup
Triangle's 2007 National Convention and Centennial Celebration took place July 12-14 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Indianapolis. Over 200 Triangle brothers representing nearly all Triangle chapters gathered to conduct official fraternity business, participate in social events, renew old friendships, and build new ones.
For those who weren't able to attend, here's a summary of what happened:
Triangle and Phi Sigma Rho Co-hosting Events
Once again, Triangle held its convention in conjunction with the annual convention of Phi Sigma Rho, a national social sorority for women in engineering and engineering technology. The partnership allowed both organizations to provide a better caliber of programming and speakers, and helped keep expenses low for all of our members.
Educational Sessions
The educational sessions proved to be popular with Triangle members who flocked to hear tips about recruitment, officer transition and training, business etiquette, job hunting, risk management, fundraising, and Triangle's new alliance with Habitat for Humanity.
Career Fair
Representatives from Northwest Airlines, Treck, Inc., ITT Corporation, GECOM, Parsons Corporation, and Tran Systems were on hand for Triangle's first-ever Career Fair. Members of Triangle and Phi Sigma Rho discussed job openings, dropped off resumes, and loaded up on free giveaways during this valuable session.
Dedication of Headquarters Courtyard
The National Headquarters building in Plainfield was the site of Friday afternoon's courtyard dedication. The front courtyard is a handsome addition to our historic property, with bricks and other decorative elements funded by donations from many generous brothers and chapters.
Chapter Dinner
On Friday night, Indianapolis' majestic Union Station was the scene of the 2007 College Night Banquet. Attendees dressed up in school colors and celebrated the achievements of our chapters. The evening ended with a dessert reception with Phi Sigma Rho.
Centennial Celebration Dinner
The culmination of Triangle's year-long centennial celebration was a gala black-tie dinner held on Saturday, July 14. Three hundred members and guests filled the hotel ballroom to enjoy a wonderful meal and a thrilling multimedia presentation highlighting memorable events in Triangle's long history.
Special attention was paid to the dozens of past National Presidents, Service Key holders, and Wall of Fame members in attendance. Additionally, the event saw the presentation of Triangle's Men of the Century, a group of brothers recognized for their outstanding achievement and service to their community, professional, academic, political, and military associations.
Brother Gene Honda ill73, voice of the Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks, and DePaul University, served as emcee for the event.
Triangle Museum
Over the course of the weekend, Convention attendees spent much time browsing through a museum of artifacts from Triangle's century of existence. Items included early minutes and governing documents from the Illinois Chapter, all three Rattles, and many pictures, programs, and other documents collected over the years.
Legislation
During the legislative business session, Triangle's National Convention...
New copies of the governing documents will be made available in the fall.

Legislation
During the legislative business session, Triangle's National Convention...
- Set a maximum period for chapters' pledge education programs. This change is intended to help prevent illegal and detrimental hazing activities and bring Triangle in compliance with NIC standards. Note that this limitation only applies to pledge education itself. Once pledge ed is complete, an additional reasonable period of time may elapse before initiation takes place.
- Formally codified the Active Advisor position, an appointed office intended to help improve communications between National Council and Triangle's active members.
- Added some procedures to the Bylaws dictating the actions to take should a candidate for National Council withdraw or enter into Chapter Eternal after the ballots have been distributed.
- Modified the procedures by which a Triangle member may be expelled by National Council or by his chapter.
- Voted to increase National fees in order to help compensate for increased operating costs.
New copies of the governing documents will be made available in the fall.
