Winter 2007 Council Meeting
Recently, National Council and other Triangle leaders traveled to southern California to hold our annual leadership summit. For the last two years, National Council, the Foundation board, and the Building Loan Fund trustess have gathered in February to discuss the present and future of the fraternity.
Friday afternoon was spent in individual board meetings. Some notes from the Council meeting:
Adam Case has resigned as Triangle's Director of Chapter Growth and will move on to other projects. He will not be replaced immediately, but we are working with the Triangle Education Foundation to try to develop a position description that can be funded by both the Foundation (which by law can only support educational and charitable activities) and the Fraternity.
The process of appointing a replacement for the open Council seat was postponed until after the nominating committee meets in a few weeks.
Data necessary for the calculation of the 2005-06 Chapter Performance Awards was incomplete last year due to delays in communication with the chapters regarding the new criteria that had been adopted. We have decided to calculate the 2005-06 awards using a variation on the old system, then adopt the new criteria for the 2006-07 awards and work quickly on reminding the chapters of the new system.
A minor (we hope) change to Triangle's Risk Management regulation was made in order to close a loophole that arguably would allow a friend or parent to donate alcohol to a chapter for a party. This contradicts the overriding spirit of the alcohol rules, which is basically BYOB.
Council also discussed the just-finalized purchase of a portion of the Favor Insurance Company, a deal that has been in the works for quite some time. (See blog entry below) We are hopeful that this will help us control insurance premiums and help provide stability in our coverage.
Most of Saturday was spent in a joint session with the other two boards who run Triangle. As a large group, we discussed the status of Triangle, its future, and how all of us can best work together to advance our fraternity.
On Saturday night, Triangle brothers living in the area were invited to a reception at the hotel. Nearly 100 Triangles socialized and congratulated three award recipients who were recognized that evening:
--The Honorable Raymond J. Ikola mich59, Associate Justice, California Court of Appeal
--George Kunkel ucla60, president of Spira Manufacturing Corp
--Mike Morhaime ucla85, president of Blizzard Entertainment
