Chapter news and other Council discussions
We are happy to announce that Triangle's recolonization effort at the University of Michigan has been successful and the organization will be regaining full chapter status early next year.
National Council's recent approval of the colony's petition for chapter status caps several years of recruitment and rebuilding efforts by many dedicated Michigan Triangles in cooperation with Triangle staff and volunteers.
The official celebration in Ann Arbor is scheduled for Saturday, January 27. More details will follow.
In less pleasant news, two of Triangle's struggling chapters have decided to close down following several years of low numbers and corresponding difficulties with finances and morale.
The alumni boards of both the Colorado State and Michigan Tech Chapters have requested that their active organizations be suspended until proper resources can be marshaled and the chapters can be restarted fresh on their campuses. After evaluating the situations, National Council has voted to suspend the organizations and placed both campuses on our calendar for future expansion efforts.
Although closing a chapter is never a happy occasion, we are hopeful that the seeds remain in place at CSU and MTU for future rebirth and growth.
In housekeeping news, Council evaluated and approved some nominations for national awards (to be announced at a later date) as well as some changes to the Approved Courses lists for the UMBC, Illinois, and Kansas Chapters. This last vote led to a discussion of the need for more detailed guidelines for evaluation of science programs, as the current Fraternity Regulation does not go into much detail about determining the admissibility of a particular major.
Council also discussed a recent risk management violation by the RIT Chapter. Following the imposition of sanctions by the university, we decided to temporarily increase the chapter's liability insurance payments and require officer attendance at the upcoming Presidents' Leadership Academy.
